In the Fall of 1998, Burnidge Cassell Associates was hired to provide a Feasibility Study including cost estimating for the renovation and construction of a new food court facility for the Martin Luther King Student Union.

Located on two main student circulation pathways and adjacent to the Union Court, the bridge area, joining the two main sections of the student union appears to be the optimum choice for the new $3.5 million dollar food court facility. This connecting link would serve as a two story element to unite the bridge lounge and Student Activities with the food court activities. Kitchen and service facilities will be newly constructed and located on grade level or within the existing kitchens from a former McDonald’s facility or the university restaurant, The existing Rathskellar would be incorporated into the new program. Vehicular traffic to the Union would be rerouted and a new terrace area for open air dining would be incorporated into the quad area facing the Booth Library.
