The Village of McFarland Wisconsin had the opportunity to purchase a former bank building for potential use as a new home for the McFarland Public Library.

At the Village’s request, BCA provided structural, mechanical and environmental analyses of the existing building to identify limitations that might prevent its use as a library building.

In evaluating building’s potential, we looked at a number of factors that had a direct impact on the building’s potential to become an efficient and pleasing public library.

BCA’s library architects and interior designers evaluated how shelving ranges would fit into the existing structural bays, what impact ceiling heights would have on library lighting and what impact the plan of the existing building would have on internal sight lines.

The findings were assembled in a final report which described the building’s potential and its limitations. The report also itemized the compromises that would need to be made if the former bank building were to be reused as a public library; information that would need to be weighed by the client in order to make an informed decision regarding the potential property purchase.

We help many of our library clients evaluate existing buildings and potential building sites for their suitability for library use.
