The Channahon Park District engaged in a unique
partnership venture to construct a 35,000 square foot field house
facility on a 40-acre parcel jointly with the Channahon Elementary
School District 17. The local school district constructed a 79,300
square foot, 500-student junior high school. This partnership
led to the passing of a successful referendum to fund both projects.
The two facilites share a common wall and are designed to maximize
use by the community, the park district, and school district. |

The park district facility includes two IHSA
basketball courts with telescopic seats for 200-500 spectators.
One of the gymnasiums is shared with the school district. Also
on the first floor are a control desk, administrative office area,
restrooms, storage, locker rooms, and showers.
A 3,000 square foot fitness center is located
on the second floor along with an elevated three-lane, 8.5 laps
to the mile jogging track. A translucent panel wall system with
vision panels was incorporated to allow natural light into the
facility while minimizing heat gain, heat loss, and glare. |
